COLD WATER DIVER Don't Hibernate! Extend Your Dive Season!

PADI Cold Water Diver course with PRO SCUBA CENTER

Wanna extend your diving season and open up new bodies of water closer to home? With the proper exposure protection you can get a glimpse of a variety of marine animals and bottom growth not found in warm water environments and typically enjoy better visibility in the winter months while safely enjoying it, even in cold water!

The Fun Part

Semi-dry suits and dry suits let you dive more challenging dive sites, and extend your dive season. When you have the right cold water scuba diving attire, you can stand up to the elements and take advantage of the generally better visibility offered by winter months—especially at inland dive sites such as quarries, lakes, sinkholes and caves etc. Thermoclines that feel like freezing temperatures compared to the warm shallow water limit your depths in warmer months. A Cold Water Diver with proper exposure protection can explore areas at their regular dive sites they've never seen before! While other divers are hibernating and suffering from "blowing bubbles withdrawal" you're out diving!

What You Learn

Gain the knowledge and skills to safely put on, dive with, take off and store a semi-dry suit. You learn:

  • Proper weighting and buoyancy control skills
  • Body responses to cold
  • How to watch for hypothermia in yourself and your buddy
  • How to avoid stress and overexertion in the cold water environment
  • Why air consumption is increased
  • Between and after dives - techniques to prevent hypothermia
  • Decompression sickness risk in cold water

Your Next Adventure

Scuba diving with a dry suit is useful when diving many types of dive sites. A dry suit is necessary when ice diving and sometimes while altitude diving. Many technical divers wear dry suits on almost every dive due to the length of the time spent underwater. The longer the diver is in the water, the more thermal protection is required.
